Today was the first workday of the New Year and with it began our first new project. I actually began it some time ago but a flurry of international travel for other projects put this one on hold for a while. The sign is a mix of welded steel, sculpted concrete and epoxy and some routing. I used one of our new woodgrain bitmaps for the texture.

This afternoon I used the routed grooves in the center portion of the sign as a pattern to cut and weld up the structural portion. I then laminated the two faces (back and front) around this frame. I used Coastal Enterprises' PB Bond 240 glue along with lots of coarse wood screws. The screws will be left in place and covered with a little sculpting epoxy for extra insurance.

Tomorrow I'll begin the hand carving with my trusty air powered die grinder and then I'll sculpt the little winged horse by hand using some sculpting epoxy.

I love the inspiration.

When I look at your stuff, I always make sure I look at all the background stuff too.
