Keep posting your stuff. :)

Aaaah, NOW i found this thread... :)
I was searching for a board like this yesterday, but apparantly i did not look to the center of the page,
LOL^^
OK, so here we go:

Hey guys,

first of all, please excuse my poor english. I do my very best and i hope you can understand what i am trying to say.
My name is Marc, 33 years old and i am from germany. I live near Stuttgart, so i am a Swabian, if someone knows what this is. Maybe more of you know the Frühlingsfest or Oktoberfest, but thats ok. Everyone has to set priorities and at least we have that two festivals in stuttgart, too ;)

I hope my tries to gag don't sink in my bad english^^

Why i am here? Well, i hope to find and/or get some information about making 3D-(de)signs out of urethane-foam and wood. I made a couple of wooden signs until now, but i want to "go outdoor", because HDU-3d-signs are not very common here in germany. Most people KNOW them, but no one MAKES them. I want to jump at that chance now.
But here in germany they just make mold-design (mainly for the automotive-industry) from hpu, so i could neither find detailed informations about the exact characteristics of the hpu used for such signs (e.g. densitiy), nor how to paint that after cutting such signs.

I hope i will not bother you guys too much with my english and my noob-questions, but maybe i can help others with my knowledge about cnc, cnc-software and router-bits in return. Because THERE i am more skilled. Mainly when it comes to cutting aluminum or building cncs yourself

I already posted in the beginner section, but it is never too late to introduce yourself, i think ;)

Kind regards,

Marc

Hello again :)

Just wanted to post a pic or two about what i am doing, when not making signs or related stuff.
As i said, i am cutting much aluminum, so here is a sample of what i am doing:

This is 4mm aluminum, cutted with a 4mm one-tooth cutter with 1600mm/min and at 20.000rpm
The machine is mainly built by myself. As you can see ;) Still some things to finish

Hi! Mike Schnorr here in beautiful downtown Newberry, MI (freezing my butt off...) Joined back in August of 2012 but never got to post anything as I soon moved from sunny Wilmington, NC to this tropical paradise called "The UP". Finally got up and running (with internet and electricity too!) so I thought I should introduce myself! I am doing a lot more signage since the move so I really look forward to seeing what I have missed here over the last year or so. Thanks for letting me in - I promised to post some pictures real soon!

Thanks Jason! I'm trying to look at all of the old posts to see what I have missed so I don't ask questions that have already been answered! There are sure a lot of good ideas on this forum! Thanks again for making this happen!

Jim,
Love the look of that metal! What is the finish?
Bill,
I've started playing with foam a lot more since moving to the middle of nowhere (Can't buy much else to play with). What kind of hardcoat are you using?
Good to have you two aboard!

I think the hard coat he's using is a plural spray two pack type. Cures super quick and can recoat quickly. Super strong. But lethal if not using correct gear and the spray equipment costs are quite high.

Perhaps look at outsourcing the spraying like Jamie O does?

Hello everyone.

I just found this forum thanks to one of the members. I have been involved in CNC since the about 1998. I actually enjoy making the machines more than making projects with the machines. I make an occasional sign now and then. I am looking forward to learning a lot from the forum.

Hello all.. Name is Dustin Null, People call me DirtyD..if ya gotta ask you don't want to know..lol

Anyway 31yrs old I own my own Sign and Graphics shop it's a new shop in our town. I have been in the sign industry since I was 15yrs old working as a trash boy after school. I really liked the business so became a full-time installer and started learning as much as I could moved around a couple of companies till i found one I felt good at. Work my way to Field Supervisor, then into the graphics world and became the GM of their Graphics Retail Store division, then opened my own shop.

So here we are, I have a 74" Roland and lam and cut to go with, and just started getting into CNC, I only have a desktop DIY (Shapeoko 2) right now and just doing small stuff and trying to learn what I can before investing into a large industrial machine. It is a lot of fun the things you can create and one day maybe just maybe I can make some stuff like you guys!

Hello and thank you for letting me join your forum, I am a relative newb compared to some of the talent here. I am employed by Lockheed
to make engraved signs but I make v-carved and 3d wood and foam signs in my spare time. I'm hoping to get my signs a little more artistic
and any suggestions will help. My website is signsalive.net some people love my signs while others dont but I sure do like making them. I hope to talk to you all soon.

William, welcome to 3D SF.

When you're ready to go, hit us up. I think we're about comfy enough to assist with a buy from our awesome rep. Annie from China. Now that we've experienced the process, we know they deliver and there are a good 5-6 machine owners right here on the board, all positive reviews.

Hi Guys, nice community of skilled craftsmen you have here! I started making signs for a shop in Denver CO. back in '81 doing hand routed/carved redwood signs, had to switch to MDF and HDU in the '90s because of redwood availability and cost, then added a CNC in '99. I've been running the CNC dept at a shop here in Palm Springs for the past 15 years. I use Enroute 5 pro on two MultiCam routers, also have an Engraver and a 120w Laser.
I've followed Dan Sawatzky for the past few years since he uses the same basic setup, I've gone through most of his tutorials and made some sample plaques, lot's of fun! We do a lot of different custom signs, mostly ADA on acrylic as well as electrical signs and everything in between. I don't get the call for a lot of the cool 3d stuff but have had the chance to work on a few cool projects over the years, I'll post some stuff in the showcase soon. Always a pleasure to see what others are doing with their talent.
Paul
Old school hand carver from the '80s-now running all things CNC at JCD!

Hello guys my name is Amos. Just signed as a member. I am very interested in the cnc sign business. My background is in machining for the past 25 years. I am looking to purchase a cnc router and start a small sign business that will transform into full time work. Any information or help on what should or shouldn't be done would be great. I am in the research stage right now and need as much info as possible. Thanks and I am looking forward to talking to you.
