Hi Jason and all. Dan Keith here. Glad you put this forum together, should be more than interesting. My dad was a old school sign painter in Albuquerque, NM and I worked off and on in the business over the years. I have been a maker of things all my life and naturally lean toward 3D objects. Several years ago I built a home grown plasma table and got board with it quickly so built a cnc router and it ain't boring, especially with Aspire software. The sky is the limit. I have a part time blog at dansfoundry.blogspot.com and an unfinished web site dansfoundry.com. I will attach a few pics and be a regular on this forum. Thanks Dan

Hi Folks - a shout out to the leaders/mentors/instructors from the recent Indiana Rob's Sign camp and for setting this up (and so quickly).

We are just now starting to expand our operation into larger signage, and materials other than wood.

Hi everyone,

My name is Norbert ('Norb' on Aspire Forum) and I am located in the Caribbean. My last name is the same as Rick's, the men's basketball head coach at St Louis University.

While I very rarely do a complete sign from start to finish, I am not a sign maker per se. I am mainly interested in the subject as I am doing the machining for established signage firms.

My primary machine is a 5' x 10' Maxicam with 6-tool ATC and Syntec controller.

My preferred program by far is Vectric Aspire although I have BobCAD/CAM, ViaCAD Pro, AutoCabinets, etc. I am considering DeskProto as a have recently purchased a 4-Axes Sherline Mill and Lathe for working alloys.

So..... I joined-up here to learn from the experts.

Cheers
Norbert

Hi, all.

Thanks for building this website. Looks like a winner!
My name is Craig. I'm in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I'm a graphic designer by trade (nearly 30 years), and a Weekend Woodworking Warrior. I am currently trying (!) to wind down my design business, and gear up my CNC business. Time for a change.

I've had a 4'x8' K2CNC in the garage for about two years, and am learning a ton, thanks to some familiar names here, and the fine folks from Vectric.

I look forward to participating in this forum.
Here are a few of my first attempts at carving:

Rodger- I think we've all made a lot of mistakes, that's what makes us better. :grin2:

Kent, you don't have to be a sign maker to be welcome here. :) I've never attempted to make a lithophane, they look cool, I just do have time to work on anything that wasn't ordered. :-\

Rob, this place wouldn't have come together if it weren't for you and your sign camp! Thanks for putting on an amazing camp and getting some of the greatest sign makers together in the same place! You and Debbie are both great and I wish we lived closer so that we could stop by more often. I look forward your the camp next year!

Welcome Rich! Sorry you missed Rob's camp this year.. Hopefully you can make it next year! :)

Hello All,

My name is Irfan and I am from Bangalore India, 33 and now make CNC machines particularly CNC routers, I have learnt a lot from the CNC Zone and the Mechmate website,

After being well knowledgeable about the machine, maybe I can help here if people have difficulties on their machines, though you cant call me an expert - but still will try to help via my posts.(ask me if you have doubts on Mach / BoB's / powersupplies /drives / cables/ setting etc)

I am interested to learn the tricks in getting to a nicely finished sign and technologies used to illuminate signs and would pass on if and what ever I learn too.

people could see my google website http://sites.google.com/site/mscncartshop for what I had done in the past,

I have a full time day job and CNC takes away my weekends,

I have a beautiful wife and 2 great son's aged 6 and 3 and I am 33.

regards
Irfan

Welcome Irfan, thank you for joining us on the forum. You make really nice stuff! Please post the pictures here sometime, it's amazing work. What material did you use for the truck?

Also, I have to say that I'm facinated by India thanks to a tv show called Ice Road Truckers - Deadliest Roads (search on youtube if you want). Everything is so different in India, but nothing more different than the way you guys drive!

Hello everyone.

My name is Rob Sekeris and I am based in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. (Here by default as my wife's job at the local hospital is here.) Personally, I could live anywhere.
I own and operate a General 4x8 CNC with an Elte spindle. Aspire 3.5 does all the work.
I am very pleased with the set-up. After 3 years, I am finally getting to the point where I end up with the results I want, but not always. It is THOSE 40% - 60% I try to improve upon. ;D
The hardest part, is to get the customer to iterate what it is THEY want. Most of the work I do is for well established sign guys. I cut & carve, they paint and handle the end-user.
Here are some recent examples.

Thanks for the invitation to join in here!

My name is Dan Sawatzky, 'grampa dan' to my friends, I've been active on various forums on the web since I first started using computers back in 1998 but always felt a bit like a fish out of water. Few others I knew did the kind of things I did and most did not understand the HUGE passion I have for my craft. I eat, sleep and live 3D. I enjoy every project we do but when it is finished I am ready to up the ante just a little on the next, building on both success and things that don't go quite that well. Today's project is always my favorite and I am always dreaming of the next. We do both hand sculpting and CNC projects, combining both disciplines to their best advantage. I LOVE texture and incorporate it on just about everything we do.

I recognize many names here and have met a few of you in person. As most probably know I write a number of blogs both on our website and for some of our suppliers. We host workshops here in our studio a few times each year and been privileged to have folks come from around the world to attend. It's pretty cool to be able to share the things we have learned through the years.

We work from our home studio on a small acreage in the tiny town of Yarrow, British Columbia, Canada. The lines between our personal lives and business ones is very blurred. It is in fact a lifestyle rather than a job.

We do projects of various sizes, from small signs to entire theme parks - all themed to the maximum possible. Everything we do is dimensional. I am all about storytelling and couldn't think of anything I would rather do.

Our current large project is the new house we Janis & I have dreamed of for the last twenty years. It is currently at the roofing stage with the detail work just beginning. This project will be our fanciest yet using every trick we can muster and most likely a few we haven't yet thought of. the link to the blog chronicling that project is at http://imaginationcorporation.com/house-project/

I look forward to sharing lots of tricks and techniques here and also learning plenty from others who contribute to the discussions.
